From left, Dwayne Isgrig, Jeremy Krock, and Larry Lester carry and place the headstone of Big Bill Gatewood, who won 117 games for more than a dozen teams in the Negro Leagues from 1906 to 1928. Gatewood was buried in an unmarked grave for almost 50 years until his grave was discovered and a marker was purchased by the NLBGMP.
Since its inception in 2004, the Negro Leagues Baseball Grave Marker Project of the Negro Leagues Committee of SABR has placed over 50 grave markers on previously unmarked graves
To provide proper grave markers for players of the Negro Leagues to honor their contributions to history and the game of baseball.
Since 2004, grave markers have been purchased by the NLBGMP with donations from fans like you.
